Risky Business

Love is a treasure and it is also risky. It is being vulnerable and risking rejection that is difficult. Rejection, disappointment, being open to deceit and malice born from another’s deep personal wounds, allowing another to have access to those deeply vulnerable spaces, these are those things and inner places we shy away from. Consistently Walking in Love in the face of the risks and personal loss is difficult.

Oh how Jesus felt! He still chose to BE LOVE.

When this becomes a life standard, to love each as the nature of relationship allows and healthy Godly boundaries permit, we become more like Christ. This is a gift and a blessing, despite the risks. May I be so bold as to point out that one who has not experienced loss is not as deeply aware of how to rightly cherish the blessing. One that has not experienced betrayal has difficulty completely appreciating and honoring loyalty. Those who experience the depths and lows associated with love can more fully appreciate those places of solid ground, able to rightly discern toxic from healthy, place and maintain godly boundaries. This is how one grows from mistakes rather than let their mistakes swallow their future. Real love is a progressive understanding of Who God is and who He called you to be. From this we are able to progressively become wise in how we love. Sometimes that means saying no. Sometimes that is a yes. Some questions will not receive any answer at all. God’s Word and godly wisdom are the greatest yardsticks by which we can learn and grow, love beyond the risks, be a gift and a blessing. Open to receive and accept this gift and blessing. Love is to flow, not just be given yet not accepted, not just be accepted yet not given. Love is a gift and a blessing, especially those difficult lessons. Learn, grow, be wise, but never allow your experiences stop you from Loving.

Mark 12:30-31 New King James Version (NKJV)

30 And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength.’ This is the first commandment. 31 And the second, like it, is this: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.”
