All throughout the Word emotions are both cautioned and promoted. This can seem awfully confusing and even contradictory.
Well I've been meditating on this topic for some time now as Abba walks me through the journey of emotional awareness and teaching me balance.
My emotions do not always engage with my belief. For many years, I tried to shut them off. Emotions hurt, at least that was the bulk of my experience for much of my life.
Well part of what I am learning is a different perspective than the popular thoughts and opinions in the world. Some consider emotions the most important and live by them exclusively. Some say Emotions are not vital for making right choices or living a productive life. Some say emotions are just that, not good or bad, right or wrong, just emotions.
I would say that there is a lil nugget in each perspective but the Truth is so much bigger, deeper, vast than that. Here is what I'm learning through my journey.
I believe that emotions should be considered and used but not lived by exclusively. I also say that they ARE vital to living a full and productive life. I believe that emotions CAN be good or bad, right or wrong. I do NOT believe that they are 'just emotions'.
We have the ability to discern, redirect, and choose our thoughts. We can also do so with our emotions. Yes they are difficult to regulate, redirect, and manage at times. The struggle and battles are very real. Emotions can feel overwhelmed, out of control, completely absent, dry, or empty like a void. We can still choose, spark, direct, tone it down, alter, and manage our emotional states. As we submit this area to the Power of the Holy Spirit and the Word of God, He will continue the Good work He began.
