Ecclesiastes was the wisdom of king Solomon, noteably the wisest man to date. I love this book of Wisdom. The theme is to seek to obtain the things of God, that which is Eternal. Do all we do with a mind and heart for God enjoying the things on the journey He provided, humbly and rightly. Be a person of integrity and action. Do not be so consumed with the getting more and having more that you lose sight that these worldly things we strive to chase are disposable things. Time and rust will eventually claim all material things. Enjoy what you have now, share with others. Honor God who allowed you the breath, strength, and ability to get, share, and enjoy what you have.
Ecclesiastes 5 New King James Version (NKJV)
Fear God, Keep Your Vows
1 Walk prudently when you go to the house of God; and draw near to hear rather than to give the sacrifice of fools, for they do not know that they do evil.
2 Do not be rash with your mouth,
And let not your heart utter anything hastily before God.
For God is in heaven, and you on earth;
Therefore let your words be few.
3 For a dream comes through much activity,
And a fool’s voice is known by his many words.
4 When you make a vow to God, do not delay to pay it;
For He has no pleasure in fools.
Pay what you have vowed—
5 Better not to vow than to vow and not pay.
I found myself being drawn to these particular Scriptures, kind of like a prodding to go even deeper. This is the beginning of what I am finding.
Walk prudently means to exercise good Godly judgement; to wisely choose, live, think, act, and speak. So, we are to exercise good judgement based on God’s standard. We live, think, choose, act, obtain, give, consume, speak in ways that honor God. When we communicate with Abba, we can lay our burdens down, cast our cares on Him. He sees, He understands you need to ‘get it off your chest’ so to speak. Just make sure your intent is to rid yourself of all things that may interrupt your ability and capacity to draw near with both a listening spirit and an obedient willingness toward Abba. What is the point of having all of these ‘things’ if there is no purpose? Enjoy and share in a God-honoring way. Life should be approached wisely and prudently, but also LIVED and ENJOYED. Look for moments today, be intentionally grateful and give God thanks for WHO HE IS. It is His love that makes a Way. The very breath you breathe is His gift.
